This photo was taken last week on Panacea, a Ted Hood designed 62' Little Harbor Sloop run by Leah's very capable husband, Captain Jeffrey Poole.

These two have sold hundreds  (that's right, hundreds) of homes from Little Compton to Charlestown and everywhere in between.  They will analyze your real estate goals, provide you with sensible feedback…

BEFORE

Here’s a happy house-flipping story to start your weekend off right.

Fixer-uppers are not for everyone, but this little gem in Middletown is a Cinderella story worth sharing:

It started with a closing on a sad little house in need of major TLC. It ended 2 months later with a 7-day listing, a full price offer and an exhausted, but happy Seller.

Time and Effort are the life blood of flips. They must look brand new. When they do, people buy them. It’s that simple. If you plan to do it yourself, get ready for some aches and pains. If you do it right, however, the rewards can be great.

Location is key for a successful flip. This one was on the Middletown Newport line near parks, restaurants and coffee shops. Once the location checked…

This week we welcomed Caroline Richards to the Hogan Associates' fold!  She'll be joining our Bellevue Ave. team, and we can't wait to watch her go!

A Salve Regina grad, Caroline spent 15 successful years in the banking / venture capital business in NYC, Boston, San Francisco and London, but she always wanted to come back to Newport. In 2007 she did, and she now resides here with her husband and 2 SUPER cute (and silly) kids.

Caroline has a devoted following of buyers and sellers.  She's smart and funny too - bonus - and we're really glad she's here!

Hogan Associates’ Broker, Matt Hadfield, wanted to do something more this year than simply sponsor a family over the holidays. He wanted to do something in the spirit of giving the whole year through. Earlier this year, he came up with the idea of "Project Re-Give". The goal of Project Re-Give is to collect unwanted or duplicate holiday gifts and donate them so that resident's of Lucy's Hearth may receive presents to celebrate birthdays and other milestones throughout the year.

How it Works: Instead of returning an unwanted or duplicate gifts, we are asking people to donate these gifts to Project Re-Give. We are not asking for anyone to go out and purchase gifts, simply to donate gifts that they may not otherwise return. Items are being…

Hopedene Newport RIHopedene, Newport, RI, sold $16M 12/19/12

It was another stellar day for Newport, RI luxury real estate as word spread that Gustave White Sotheby's brokered the sale of Hopedene for $16M. The sale was Rhode Island's highest recorded sale this year and the second highest ever.

Located on Cliff Avenue with a sweeping lawn and stunning views of First Beach and the Atlantic, Hopedene was designed by Peabody and Stearns and completed in 1902 for Elizabeth Hope Gammell Slater.

Interior designer Ogden Codman, Jr. built an addition in 1913 and redesigned the Georgian Revival mansion when Charles P. Patterson, a NY antiques dealer purchased the home.

When he died, Mr. Patterson left Hopedene to Newport's Preservation Society and in 1983 Britty Cudlip…

Garden RavioliNewport Restaurant Week Nov. 2-11, 2012

Like many of you out there, I absolutely adore food; especially the fall comforts – from pot roast to pumpkin pie and everything in between it’s all delectable to me!  Thanksgiving Thursday, in all of its splendor, is a day I usually indulge the cravings that I fight tooth and nail to ignore throughout the year.

There is one event, however, that puts my willpower to the ultimate test.  It’s right around the corner, and after checking out this year’s menu items, I think my mind will once again lose a battle with my stomach.

The event, Newport Restaurant Week,  November 2nd  – 11th.   If you’re lucky enough not to worship food in the way that I do, than use this opportunity to inspire your own Thanksgiving…

This recent text exchange between my daughter and me got me thinking about celebrity (Secret: I don't know who Orlando Jones is!) and the exceptional people who work quietly among us here in Newport. Here are a couple who come to mind.

I brought my car to Coffee's Texaco for a tire change the other day. Neal Coffee said it would be ready in an hour, so I walked through Washington Square to Ocean Coffee Roasters to kill some time.

Coffee's Citgo has occupied a triangular patch of historic Newport for as long as I can remember.  You have to pass it on your way out of town.  He sells 3 or 4 used cars on a small section of the lot, offers parking on busy summer days, distributes doggie treats to canine passers by and fixes all kinds of cars all year…

The intricate ins and outs of Newport’s streets are typically explored by those who have exhausted the main street attractions. Once you are numb to the typical sights you begin to crave more, and Newport has much much more to see. In grade school my friends and I wandered around town looking for things to do. In doing so we discovered many hidden spots with amazing views of Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island Sound and the Atlantic Ocean. I now love taking friends to these spots to show them Newport’s beauty the way I grew up seeing it. These are my top spots in Newport RI to enjoy the waterfront:

The Point: The Point is at the end of the downtown area just before the bridge to Goat Island. This historic part of Newport right by the Newport Bridge has…

When it comes to dining in Newport, RI you can’t go wrong at too many places. Everyone you ask will tell you to go somewhere different because there are so many great restaurants in town. From seafood to burgers to drinks by the waterfront Newport RI has it all and has at least one spot that does it very well. These are the places I like to take my friends to impress them when they come visit Newport.

Brick Alley Pub- Brick Alley is probably the top most recommended place in Newport. They serve pub style comfort food in a neat three-story restaurant covered in sports memorabilia, license plates, autographs and much more. On top of all of that I have always had great service when I go there. If you want to get a table during the summer make a…
