Part of the appeal of living in Charlestown is being close to a number of beaches where you can sunbathe, swim, and enjoy watersports. Popular beaches include Charlestown Town Beach, Blue Shutters Town Beach, Quonnie Beach and East Beach.
Ninigret Park has a sandy beach on the edge of a pond, as well as tennis courts, ball fields and a bicycle trail. This is also home to the Frosty Drew nature center and observatory where you can view the skies with high-powered telescopes.
There are plenty of recreational activities for young people such as basketball, football, little league baseball, and soccer. After sixth grade, students can participate in sports offered at the Chariho Regional District Middle and High School.
Charlestown hosts a number of events throughout the year that bring the community together and attract visitors. The Seafood Festival celebrates the town’s bounty of lobster, clams and other underwater delicacies. The Big Apple Circus is fun for the whole family. Fans of country music and blues can enjoy soulful tunes at the Rhythm and Roots festival.
