Jamestown is a beautiful island community connected to the Rhode Island mainland by the Jamestown-Verrazano Bridge to the west, and to Aquidneck Island by the Claiborne Pell/Newport Bridge to the east.
There are two schools located on Jamestown Island: Melrose School (Preschool to Grade 4), Lawn School (Grade 5 to Grade 8). High school students attend North Kingstown High School (Grade 9 to Grade 12) located just over the Jamestown/Verrazano Bridge.

Today, the public has access to some of the remains of these military buildings and other historical buildings which are set in very scenic locations.
When a ferry service was established in 1873, Jamestown became a popular vacation spot, and continues on to this day as a desirable summer destination.

Jamestown is home to a number of parks, farms, and beaches that are open to the public. Beavertail State Park contains a historic lighthouse and museum and a small aquarium. Fort Wetherill State Park has locations that are excellent for fishing, hiking, and picnicking. Fort Getty Recreational Area offers ocean view campsites. For swimming and relaxing on a beautiful beach, visit Mackerel Cove Beach.
