The main naval complex is located at the northwest tip of scenic Newport and extends into southwest Middletown along the southwest side of Aquidneck Island. It includes Coasters Harbor Island, which is home to the Naval War college. It total, the station is home to 50 Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and US Army Reserve commands and activities.

About Naval Station Newport
The naval installation has been described as mirroring "a miniature America." The base is the third-largest employer in Rhode Island and the largest in Newport County with about 5,800 employees working at the various commands. In addition, 17,000 students pass through on a yearly basis.
