Bristol Real Estate Information

Bristol homes for sale are popular because they offer an ideal setting in which residents and visitors alike can enjoy casual, yet elegant coastal living. Properties range from palatial waterfront estates to modern condos and charming single-family homes with large yards.

Real estate in Bristol can be found either directly on the waterfront or just a short distance from the shore. There is a good mix of quiet residential streets and commercial areas in the historic downtown where you will find older heritage homes.

Also located within Bristol are gated communities such as Poppasquash Point, a private peninsula of stately homes on park-like acreages with east and west views across the harbor. This area is also home to the Bristol Yacht Club.

Typical features of Rhode Island real estate include large windows that make the most of the sea views, attractive wooden siding, and stone fireplaces. Modern and remodelled homes may have marble or granite countertops, spa-like baths, and cutting-edge appliances.

Outdoor living is part of the Bristol lifestyle, so many homes have ample outdoor spaces where you can enjoy the fresh air. Most single-family homes have gardens, decks, and backyards with lawns and trees. Condos often have balconies or porches either overlooking the water or surrounded by greenery.

Bristol Area Information

Because Bristol is a peninsula between Narragansett Bay and Mount Hope Bay, its climate is moderate. It tends to be warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer than other New England communities. This also means that it has ocean views in nearly every direction.

The area was originally inhabited by the Pokanoket people, and later by the English in the 1600s. The town was founded in 1680 and named after Bristol in England. Today Bristol boasts the longest running Independence Day celebrations and the oldest annual parade in the US.

Downtown Bristol stretches up from the waterfront in an easy-to-navigate grid pattern. It offers an appealing mix of historic Rhode Island real estate, boutique shops, buzzing restaurants, and boat docks. This is where you can catch the ferry to neighboring Prudence Island.

Bristol is also home to a number of picturesque parks. Independence Park is located right on the waterfront and offers uninterrupted views of the harbor. Colt State Park is on the other side of the harbor and has hiking trails, picnic tables, and a museum.

Bristol Recreational Activities & Attractions

Bristol’s seaside location makes it a prime destination for outdoor activities on the water. Children and adults can participate in sailing programs at the Bristol Yacht Club. Popular swimming beaches include Beach Terrace, Bristol Highlands, and Bristol Narrows.

The East Bay Bike Path runs for 14.5 miles between Bristol to Providence and offers beautiful views of Narragansett Bay. The path is open to cyclists, walkers, joggers, and rollerbladers. The path starts at Independence Park in Bristol and ends at India Point Park in Providence.

Blithewold Mansion & Gardens, a 33-acre waterfront estate, is a very popular attraction. Linden Place is another mansion with an interesting history. Other attractions include the Crescent Park Carousel, the Coggeshall Farm (a working 17th century farm), and the Audubon Society Environmental Education Center.

Throughout the year there are numerous events in Bristol that are fun for all ages. The annual Fourth of July parade has been held in Bristol since 1785, and is still one of the largest and most colorful celebrations in the country. The Christmas Festival and Grand Illumination is another must-see spectacle.
