Narragansett real estate consists of a strip of land that runs along the eastern bank of the Pettaquamscutt River to the ocean. Narragansett also includes four of Rhode Island's most popular beaches.
Narragansett separated from South Kingstown in 1888, and in 1901, incorporated as a town. During this period, Narragansett was mainly a farming area but was also developing into a resort area and fishing community. The vast majority of residential development at this time was single family dwellings. Of these dwellings, a significant number were used as summer vacation homes.
Today, all that remains of the Golden Victorian resort era are a pair of stone arches that span Ocean Road, curved towers anchor these arches. The granite towers, remnants of the Casino that burned in 1900, are three-story tall, beautiful reminders of a glorious past.
Although this luxurious resort era may be gone, the year-round population of Narragansett is rapidly increasing. Commercial developments center around tourist oriented businesses, fishing, and research activities at the Narragansett Bay Campus University.
